CGI-scripts

I did not write this as iItried too but t sounded like rubbish so here's a good version from www.jalfrezi.com

Traditionally the program would be a CGI-script (Common Gateway Interface). In most cases this would be written to process the form and send the results to an e-mail address in a nice legible manner; a process called form-to-mail. In order to have such an executable program you must have direct access to a server computer, along with the disk space and CPU time to spare. Many Internet service providers (ISPs) explicitly prohibit the use of subscribers' scripts on their computers because it slows the response time on the server and could present a security risk. For these reasons, many ISPs will have their own cgi-script available: check with your ISP. If they don't allow you to host your own scripts and do not have any form-to-mail software that you can use, ask them why not and consider moving somewhere that does.

If your ISP does not have its own form-to-mail script then, don't worry, you still have an alternative. freedback.com who will let you use their scripts and their server, so you can add cgi based fill-out forms to your website for FREE.
